About Dogs

Dogs are important to us and because of their flexibility, intelligence and size, often become much more than the family pet: they are adopted as part of the family. They also have amazing qualities of learning and adapting to their surroundings which often mislead humans into treating them as humans and inadvertently encouraging the dog to misunderstand his/her role.

Jan Fennell & Tony Knight have studied canine behaviour in wolves and wild dogs; canines in situations where their instinctive nature is revealed un-contaminated by human interaction. From those observations they have devised a system of communicating with your dog or dogs which continually addresses the canine preoccupations with status, safety and food, and communicates the necessary truth to your dog that you NOT they, are in the decision making role. Tony came up with the name 'Amichien Bonding' to describe the process and reflect it's friendly, positive, communicative style. This is NOT a training method; it is more a language to speak to your dog in, and understand. As such it demands application to learn, and continued dedication to get more and more fluent.

In their wild state canines do not hurt and injure members of their own pack although some behaviours look fierce and violent to our eyes. Consequently this method does not involve inflicting pain, being violent or aggressive, but relies on understanding what is happening and maintaining your place in the decision making role.
